At base, Rimworld will load ALL textures from mods it finds in viable mod-folders - so if you run a texture-pack with upscaled mod-textures, it will load ALL of them, no matter if you even use those mods. That will become more important on modlists affected by texture-redundancy.

The largest impact on vRAM-usage might have Taran's Faster Game Loading anyways, since it improves on the GC to flush out unused assets to free up memory at startup.

So usually that means that you either run 'Todds' (converter, found on Dub's Discord) by hand (command-line) - convert with RimPy on another device (PC) and then copy over your mods onto the SD - or you try using Todds through RimSort directly on the SD, but it's still in heavy development and takes a while to set up properly. The latter part is not etched in stone - you can convert the textures however you like, RimPy is just the easiest to approach method for regular users - and the fact that it seems to have issues running on Steam Deck makes this part of the process more complicated as it has to be. dds what is usually done with RimPy's integrated converter. That's the core issue - like I've said, there are ways to cut down on the excessive behavior of RW hogging vRAM (and RAM if the vRAM usage flushes over) but there's first and foremost a limit to what can be done, and in addition part of it usually means converting mod-textures to. r/RimWorldStreams - For all of your videos and streams needs

If you are on your limits of either of those, you might get graphic glitches and rendering becomes slow since the game is not meant to render all stuff of the whole map (especially on large maps).

Zooming out to a full map will stress your computer via CPU and graphics memory. Solution: don't zoom in too much if you want to keep those mods. The clipping range of the camera will hide elements that are "too high" in the 3D scene. Other mods do weird stuff like SoS2 which can create rendering problems if you use Camera+ to zoom in too much. One example is the option in Dubs Performance Analyzer that "optimizes pawn labels". Some mods mess with labels and other pawn rendering and thus conflict with Camera+. Perfect for this one great screenshot or for showing your viewers all the details while streaming.
