When I got the bike it was this that I was most worried about so it was great to be able to throw it at most things without having to worry about a thing, amazing! The solid front fork is surprisingly forgiving thanks to the tyres, so even rough sections are munched up and chewed before you have time to worry about it. I managed to get a couple of Strava KOM’s, it is that rapid! Despite the frame being aluminium it is seriously stiff and responds nicely to inputs of power, even when stressed on tight berms or when bouncing over roots and rocks. The Stache 5 does not disappoint on looks, the Miami Green paint scheme is stunning and turned heads at the local trail centre, one guy even took a photo of it whilst I was grabbing a coffee! Of course, there’s no point having a cool looking bike if it doesn’t ride well and, thankfully, this thing rides so well I couldn’t help but grinning from ear to ear, even on boring road sections. I rode it on pretty much everything, from the monotony of a road section to the thrill of a fast and twisty singletrack descent, I gave it all I had and here is what I thought of it. Thankfully, Marcus at Severn Valley Cycles let me loose on the demo bike he has in the shop for a weekend. Not only does it look like quite a cool bit of kit, the half fat 29+ tyres make it look intriguing and most of all fast, I had to try it! Earlier this month I had the chance to test a bike that I have been wanting to ride for a long time, the Trek Stache 5.
